Why Mayor?
The position of Mayor is figurehead of the city. The Mayor is given the unique opportunity to serve the entire city. They influence the entire flow and direction of the city. That role of importance needs to be filled by someone that will listen and understand their citizens. I want to listen to my fellow citizens. I want to understand their perspective and I want to work toward creating a community we can all enjoy. I want the work and responsibility that comes with being Mayor because I feel called to use my skills to best serve my community.
Campaign Guarantees
Average Salary
The most recent US Census estimates the per capita average income for Sandy residents at $56,653. Meanwhile, the Sandy Mayor made $178,608 in base wages last year, over triple the average. Such a large economic disparity would fail to be an accurate representation of the community as a whole. This has led to my Campaign Guarantee that once Mayor, I will only take the average per capita income of Sandy residents based on the most current Census data for the year. Any amount of money earned above this average will be set aside into a public account that will be used for community events, infrastructure, or donated to charity. I want to be the kind of leader that understands the issues and concerns the people I represent have. I believe that by not personally taking such a large salary I will be able to better fulfill that role. I’m not in this race for the money, I’m in it to provide the best possible leadership Sandy City deserves.
Public Finances
Transparency is the only weapon against corruption. I want to be open and honest as your elected official. It is my guarantee that when elected Mayor my own personal finances will be completely available for public viewing. You’ll be able to see exactly how much money I have, where I get it, and how I spend it. This won’t completely eliminate the possibility of corruption. However, it will provide citizens with a powerful tool to keep me honest. My priority is to Sandy City residents and improving their lives and the community and through this promise of financial transparency you’ll have proof of my good intentions.
